Module 4- RSS Feed

To the right hand side of this blog you will find the RSS feed for the PLA (Public Library Association) blog.

I chose PLA's blog for my RSS feed because it contains topics relevant to public libraries and often addresses the subject of public library staff.

Module 3- Podcast

The podcast I selected is entitled Certified Public Library Administrators and can be located at
http://www.ala-apa.org/certification/cpla.mp3. This podcast is a production of ALA-PLA.

This podcast addresses the issues Librarians face when moving into administration positions including the fact that many have not had any training or experience with complex issues such as human resources and funding issues. The podcast reveals that many Library Directors require education in the field of management in order to perform thier duties well. It goes onto describe the Certified Public Library Administrators program in depth.

I located this podcast by searching Public Library Association podcasts using Yahoo.com.

Module 2 Blog Competency

I chose this site because it uses competencies as a basis for staff trainging. I thought this was interesting, since we are using comptencies in this class.

LibrarianInBlack.net at http://librarianinblack.typepad.com/librarianinblack/2006/10/il_2006_cultiva.html#comments

I found this blog by searching Google blogs.

Susan Houghton blogs about her presentation on using competencies to design employee training.

"How will competencies help?–job descriptions–evaluations–reveal training needs–address feelings of inequity–help staff adjust and handle change"

My focus is staff issues in public libraries. I had a tough time finding blogs that were aimed at staff issues or management issues, so I opted to go the training route.

I did however, think that it was a real shame that there do not seem to be library directors or library management out there discussing issues together that are specific to management and staff.
